As you prepare for the heating season, make sure, before

using the heat or fireplace that you have ...

1- Changed the air filter in your air handling unit and

removed all items from around the HVAC unit to ensure

proper air flow (filters are available from the office free of

charge)

2- check the batteries in all the smoke detectors.

Remember, the City of Gaithersburg requires that all homes

have sealed 10-year battery smoke detectors in all sleeping

areas and a hard-wired smoke / carbon monoxide detector in

the hallway.

3- Checked the fireplace screen to make sure it is in good

condition and opened the fireplace flue (before lighting a fire

in the fireplace)

4- Set the thermostat to heat and close all the windows
